Presentations
Welcome to Developing Mare Island.
Mare Island has been many things over its history: the West Coast's first naval base, a shipyard working on generations of vessels, and, since the shipyard closed in 1996, a place of complex transformation.
That transformation creates plenty of questions. Some examples: Who owns what? Who's responsible for the roads, and for the utilities beneath them? How does a project of this size and ambition actually get planned, approved and built? How long will it take, and why does it take that long?
We hear these questions and others like them quite often, and the Developing Mare Island series is set up to provide clear, straightforward answers. We'll share brief presentations, each focused on a single topic, explaining how large-scale mixed-use development works, what we're working on, in what sequence, and why. We'll start with the basics and build from there.
WHO WE ARE
The Mare Island Company is the master developer for the developable land on Mare Island. We work hand in hand with the City of Vallejo to plan the island's future and bring in the builders and businesses who will create a range of homes, commercial and industrial spaces, food and beverage establishments, amenities, and parks and public spaces.
WHAT’S NEXT
To begin, we'll release presentations covering the most frequently asked questions, "what is a Master Developer?", "how does the Specific Plan process work?", and "how is this paid for?". You can check back here to view those, and others, as they're released. And if there's a topic you'd like us to cover, please let us know at generalinquiries@mareislandco.com.
We're glad to have you along for this journey.
