Jan 11: Speaker Series - The Vallejo Family Letters - A Historic Presentation
Produced by the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation.
January 11th, 3:00 PM, St. Peter’s Chapel, 1181 Walnut Ave, Vallejo, CA
The Vallejo family was one of the most influential forces in early California, shaping the political, cultural, and economic landscape during the state’s turbulent transition from Mexican to American rule. Their legacy across the North Bay remains unparalleled.
On January 11, 2026, doors will open at 2:00 PM for book sales and informal mingling. The program will begin promptly at 3:00 PM, featuring award-winning authors Rose Marie Beebe and Robert Senkewicz, who will share the story of Mariano G. Vallejo and his family through more than 180 personal letters exchanged between Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, Francisca Benicia Carrillo de Vallejo, and their children from 1846 to 1888. These letters form the foundation of the authors’ decade-long research for their book, Write Long and Beautiful Letters: The Vallejos’ California Correspondence, 1846–1888.
