Speaker Series: Tiffany’s Ecclesiastical Designs and Civil War Memory

Produced by the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation.

June 22nd, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM, St. Peter’s Chapel, 1181 Walnut Ave, Vallejo, CA

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, leaded-glass memorial windows were among Louis Comfort Tiffany’s most highly visible and sought-after works of art. To meet the growing demand for his firm’s coveted window designs, and to accommodate a variety of budgets, Tiffany frequently adapted and reused existing design cartoons for new window commissions.

The event will open at 2:30pm to give you time to enjoy the Tiffany windows before the lecture. After the event, join us outside the Chapel where you can meet Dr. Rideout and enjoy a glass of wine or beer. This lecture is co-sponsored by Alibi Books, who will have related books for sale at the lecture.

Ticket Price: $25

Tree Tour

In 1854, Mare Island’s first Commander (later Admiral), David G. Farragut arrived on a land that was low and flat. Mare Island’s Alden Park, home to a fine collection of trees from many continents and climates of the world, was named for Commander James Alden who carried on Farragut’s tradition of enticing ship captains to bring trees from their voyages. More than a century later, touring the nearly 200 tree species that now live on Mare Island is like touring the world.

On Saturday, April 19th, we will meet for coffee, have an introductory talk, go on a tree tour, led by tree marketing expert, Sarah Gaskin of A Plus Tree LLC.

Two events: 9AM - Adult Tour

11:00 AM - Family Tour + Nature Art

We hope you will join us! (Limited to 30 guests per tour).
